Due to a snicker-worthy but ultimately charming miscommunication on the part of the panelists this year, six books will compete for the Young People’s Literature award instead of the traditional five, with Franny Billingsley’s Chime and Lauren Myracle’s Shine competing together. 

Quoth the panelists on their first-ever exception: "We could have taken one of the books away to keep it five, but we decided that it was better to add a sixth one as an exception, because they’re all good books."

Mmm, so warm. So fuzzy.
