When Annabelle discovers a box of yarn, she starts knitting and keeps knitting, transforming her cold, monochromatic town into a colorful, warm community. Annabelle shares her endless supply of “extra yarn” by knitting for family, friends, neighbors, teachers, animals (domestic and wild), as well as mailboxes, church spires, and trucks. As in all good yarns, there’s a villain (spoiler alert), aptly defeated by selfishness and greed. Like the heroine of Extra Yarn, Barnett and Klassen knit together strands of the quotidian to create a world that’s fresh, generous, humorous, and beautifully textured.
